Technical Designer- Men's

Product Design/Technical Development

Use your Product Development expertise to bring great designs to life! You'll work side by side with our Product Designers to ensure the design concepts are manufacturable and meet our Expect More. Pay Less brand promise


Purpose:

As a Technical Designer, you will engineer a great product at a great value, by creating and maintaining complete and accurate technical specification packets which include fit, construction, and the bill of materials. Collaborate with internal and external partners to create products that that meet quality, cost and aesthetic expectations. Drive Sales to meet guest expectations through ownership of expression of fit and the execution of product details. Provide leadership on the Technical team and through partnerships to develop self and team.

  • Specification and Sample Execution:
    • Managing product details through a complete and accurate specification and approval process from development to production approval
    • Establishing and demonstrating a working knowledge of product manufacturing and business partner�s capabilities
    • Partnering with Designer, Vendor, suppliers, and overseas RAFE�s and BPFE�s to ensure the brand vision is appropriately understood and executed
    • Utilizing mannequins and live models when appropriate for the best fit across brands and departments
    • Evaluating store product and take appropriate action to improve future product and hold business partners accountable
    • Benchmarking competitors for best methods, fit, quality, and construction details to match or exceed guest expectations
  • Critical Thinking and Execution:
    • Demonstrating leadership in critical meetings with technical expertise and the ability to engineer perceived value in brand items
    • Maintaining and adhering to calendar deadlines while making the best decision for the product
    • Managing the reporting tools and the exceptions, maintaining adherence to the process and calendar
    • Researching benchmarks to be current on trends, expression of fit, and construction standards
    • Predicting and planning for overcoming roadblocks and challenges as they occur in developing product. Anticipating the ripple effect in the process and product
  • Training:
    • Partnering with vendor to inform on changes to Target technical process and provide feedback when vendors are not meeting expectations. Partnering with Champion Trainers and providing feedback to TSS PM where appropriate
    • Communicating training needs and Target expectations to business partners
    • Mentoring others
Reporting/Working Relationships:

Reports to Development Manager or Sr. Technical Designer

Works closely with internal and partnership Design, Merchants, Technical Development, Product Managers, Sourcing Managers, and overseas TSS/AMC and RAFE and BPFE partners

Job Requirements

Minimum Requirements:
  • Four year degree in Fashion Merchandising/Textiles/Apparel Design
  • Experience in specifications ,apparel manufacturing, and product development
  • Three to five years experience in either Retail Technical Specification Department/Product Design & Development/Apparel Manufacturing preferred
  • Experience in writing of product technical specifications required
  • Experience in evaluating apparel fit required
  • Knowledge of manufacturing, garment engineering
  • May require travel

    • Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) required
    • Outlook desired
    • Familiarity with Technical Sketching tool (Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop) desired
